Some information about Pag:

The island of Pag is a truly unique case among the thousands of Croatian islands, with its lunar landscape and its two opposing souls of centuries-old tradition and unleashed modernity. Tourists who cross the bridge from the mainland to come and spend holidays here based on relaxation and nature find enchanting beaches bathed by a blue sea and a harsh but incredibly evocative natural landscape, formed by Corsican rocks and areas of Mediterranean scrub.

The island is located 180 km from Trieste and is connected to the mainland by a ferry line from Prizna and by a coastal bridge that leads to the city of Zadar.
Located opposite the coast of north-western Dalmatia, it extends for about 60km and has a very articulated coastline full of bays and with a green and hilly hinterland. It is located south of the island of Rab, and is the island of olive groves, salt pans and lace. Its name derives from the Latin “pagus” – village – in ancient times it was a fishing village. The contrast that characterizes the territory of the island is singular and impressive, almost completely barren and lunar towards the mainland, green and lush with Mediterranean vegetation on the opposite side.

The island of Pag is almost 60 km long and has a very complex coastline: the western lake of the island is low and slopes slowly towards the sea, it is green and the landscape is characterized by olive groves and Mediterranean scrub – in fact, in the valleys they grow vineyards, vegetable gardens and orchards. The eastern shore of the island is high, made up of bare rock, often beaten by the Bora wind and almost completely devoid of vegetation – tufts of salty grass grow between stone and stone which form the pastures frequented by the famous Pag sheep.
Fourth in size among the islands of the Dalmatian archipelago, it is the continuation of the Zadar lowland: the largest relief on the island is Sveti Vid (348 m above sea level) where the chapel dedicated to the Saint (St. Vitus) is located. The island is practically devoid of surface water: there are two lakes (Malo Blato and Velo Blato) which however disappear in summer and some springs in the areas of Metajna, near Pag, Novalja and Poljana.
Administratively, the island of Pag is divided: the northern part is based on Rijeka, while the southern part is based on Zadar.
The principal countries of the island of Pag are: Pag, Novalja, Lun, Kolan, Stara Novalja, Dinjiska, Povljana, Metajna, Zubovici, Simuni, Vlasici, Gorica, Kosljun and Caska
